Located in the country of Monaco, the picturesque district of Monte Carlo resides along the world-famous French Riviera. This small sovereign state is known for its opulence, luxury and many local millionaires, making it a top and exciting destination for many travelers. It’s the ideal destination to head to for a bit of indulgent R & R.
One of the most appealing things about visiting Monte Carlo is that you’re almost guaranteed a sunny day every day. This part of the world receives on average 300 days of sunshine each year. It’s the perfect place to visit if you want to relax and indulge without worrying about the unpredictable weather, as it enjoys the benefits of a consistent temperate Mediterranean microclimate.
There are so many ways to take advantage of the beautiful weather, but perhaps the best idea is to get out and explore the surrounding countryside.
There are plenty of coastal paths that offer breathtaking views from easily accessible and well-signposted routes. These sentiers littoral are perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll where you can breathe in the fresh sea air.
For those who are feeling more adventurous, there are also plenty of hiking opportunities in the surrounding mountains. These routes offer more varied terrain and often cut through pretty, unspoiled mountain villages. Common starting points include the communes of Gorbio, Aspremont and Gourdon, all located in the Alpes-Maritimes region.
Once the sun has set over that sparkling Mediterranean Sea, it’s time to head out and sample the Monte Carlo nightlife. This place comes alive at night, boasting an array of stylish restaurants, bars, nightclubs and casinos to sample.
No trip to Monte Carlo would be complete without a visit to the world-renowned casinos. The beautiful and lavish Casino de Monte-Carlo is a historical landmark, host to the annual Monaco Grand Prix procession and the backdrop to everyone’s favorite spy franchise, James Bond. The Bar Salle Blanche inside is well worth a visit, too, for live music and a comfortable lounge bar atmosphere.
Alternatively, just around the corner of the Place du Casino is the Casino Café de Paris. This is a popular and stylish venue with Belle Époque décor and an unbeatable range of slot machines.
For stunning ocean views, head down to La Vigie Lounge & Restaurant. Jutting out across the water, La Vigie offers a delightful combination of fresh seafood and Dom Pérignon as its specialties. The restaurant recommends sipping the P2 2000 vintage while gazing out across the glittering bay.
Continuing this theme, if you visit during the summer, then the Crystal Terrasse in the Hotel Hermitage features panoramic views of Monaco’s famous shoreline. The picturesque postcard scenes include landmarks such as Port Hercule and the Rocher de Monaco and must be seen to be believed.
To most, Monte Carlo can seem like a hazy dream world with its twinkling lights and fairytale architecture. It guarantees any visitor a once in a lifetime experience and despite its small size, will leave a lasting impression on anybody lucky enough to experience it. It is a jewel in the Cote d’Azur’s crown and a charming, glamorous getaway for any season.
